In August 2021, Teagasc contracted Economic Sense Consultants (South Africa) to provide value chain development and dairy expert services to the CSARIDE project.  Kerry Kyd, who is a director at Economic Sense, made a presentation on the Sense team’s activities over the past year and innovative plans going forward to an invited audience in Teagasc Ashtown, Dublin  on Wednesday 29th June. 

In her presentation, Growing the dairy sector in a market where consumers fast for 150 days per year – the case study of  Eritrea, Kerry addressed issues such as: .

  • How to do market research in a country where movement is restricted
  • Improving the profitability of processors through changing the product mix 
  • Making dairy more affordable through product formulations
  • How to distribute and sell dairy products with limited access to suitable packaging material.
